The Hughes Residences is a three-dwelling development in the Bronzeville neighborhood of Columbus comprised of a street-facing duplex with a detached accessory dwelling unit in the backyard. The project is a fresh yet subtle infill in an urban neighborhood that promotes increased density and affordability. Each unit is a 500 SF one bedroom home with its own entrance, front patio, and back porch. The simple gable expression echoes the surrounding homes and allows the project to fit into the established language of the neighborhood while material choices form its unique identity. The homes are clad in steel shingles on all sides with accents in varied colors for each. The project offers a new affordable housing option that increases density in an urban residential neighborhood.
