COhatch Westerville is a multi-building site located in Westerville’s Uptown District. The design re-imagines the historic Ohio National Guard armory as a 15,000 SF coworking and private office space and the adjacent hanger building as a 4,600 SF restaurant & beer garden. The existing armory exterior is restored and contrasted with a single-story glass and steel addition. Inside, a new mezzanine within the existing double-height drill hall expands usable workspace and creates a dynamic spatial experience. The site combines historic character with a modern sensibility to create spaces that respect the past while providing functionality for entrepreneurs, small business owners, and professionals.
The interplay between dark steel, historic brick, and landscaping captures the essence of the project that is at once stately, modern, and full of life.
The restaurant inhabits the former armory’s vehicle hangar. The simple block structure with bowstring trusses is painted and left exposed. A steel and cedar pergola creates shaded patio seating.
